Does sorting through resumes seem to be taking up your entire day? Another email. Another resume. Does every lawyer do the same thing? Have the same qualifications? Oh, and those recruiters that send you resumes that are literally irrelevant. Will this day ever end?
Keep it interesting
There are far better ways to hone in on the right legal talent. We know.
What we find super rewarding is meeting and working with the outliers. Lawyers that have very unique experience. The kind you’re actually searching for. Imagine that!
Lots of lawyers are looking for in house opportunities right now. Clearly. Many specialize, fewer specialize within their speciality. Those that do are the ones that could just make the difference. Maybe it’s leasing vs. financing (real estate), cross-border vs. domestic (M&A), distressed vs. investment grade (credit), film vs. general entertainment or biotech vs. general healthcare (IP). You get the idea.
The candidate that meets your requirements, IS out there. In fact, we’re seeing talent that truly wows us. You just have to know where to find them, and enjoy the search while doing it. We do.
Know who you want
Get a feel for the exact needs of the team you are hiring for. You’re going to want to find that lawyer who doesn’t just meet the requirements of the role, but actually loves them. The best candidates are those that are truly passionate about the aspects of law that they will be practicing. Don’t just look at their most recent job(s). See what they did in law school. Seriously. The programs they were involved in, seminars they attended and internships they had can often illustrate why they went to law school in the first place. Maybe they started working, got busy and are now ready to practice what they originally set out to do.
Getting it wrong
Have you ever had a recent hire sit right in front of you that is just…? Yeah, I think we’ve all been there. Everyone wonders how it happened and you just don’t know how you’re going to work with them every day. One person can change the entire dynamic of a group, a team, an office or the organization. Isn’t it better to get it right BEFORE people start asking…
